How does Walnut Blasting Work?
Walnut blasting is a highly effective method used to remove carbon buildup from intake valves, intake ports, and combustion chamber surfaces without causing damage to critical engine components. This process is particularly useful for direct injection engines, where fuel does not wash over the intake valves, allowing carbon deposits to accumulate over time.
The Walnut Blasting Process

1️⃣ Preparation
- The intake manifold is removed to access the intake ports and valves.
- The engine is rotated to close the intake valves of the cylinder being cleaned, preventing debris from entering the combustion chamber.

2️⃣ Blasting with Walnut Shell Media
- A specialized walnut blasting machine or media blaster is used to inject finely ground walnut shell granules into the intake ports at high pressure.
- Simultaneously, a vacuum system is used to extract the walnut media and loosened carbon deposits, preventing contamination inside the engine.

3️⃣ Cleaning Each Cylinder
- The process is repeated for each cylinder, ensuring all intake valves are thoroughly cleaned.
- Any remaining residue is removed using compressed air and an inspection camera ensures a complete cleaning.
